Biography

Joe Frasure Jr. is the race secretary at Yonkers Raceway. He has been involved in the sport for more than 40 years, starting at Lebanon Raceway cleaning stalls when he was 13. Wanting to learn from the best in the game, in 1979 he went to Pompano Park where he worked for Billy Haughton, Jim Rankin, Mickey McNichol and Joe Caraluzzi before opening a public stable in 1987 at Pompano. In 2000, he was a second trainer for Dan Altmeyer, then Mickey Burke. Over a 12-year period, he also trained off and on for Tom Harmer, handling the great Jereme’s Jet. Some of the other top horses he has been associated with are Art’s Chip, Fox Valley Barzgar, Not Enough and Yellow Diamond. In 2010, Frasure made the switch to track management, starting as lasix coordinator and working his way up to race secretary at Pompano Park until being hired to work at Yonkers Raceway as assistant race secretary. With the retirement of his friend, co-worker and fellow USTA Director Bob Miecuna, Frasure was promoted to race secretary in late summer 2021.
