Sam Hedington
Biography

Sam Hedington has been involved in harness racing his entire life. He started racing Trottingbreds with his father, which created a great foundation to start as an owner, trainer and driver in the Standardbred industry. He has raced at the county fairs and on the pari-mutuel circuit since the late 1980s and is the owner of a 40-acre farm with a half-mile training track and stables. Some of his top horses include Call Me Beacon and Donna Super Sis. Hedington is a former director of the Indiana Standardbred Association. During his time there, he served as second vice president and chaired the following committees: fair grant, magazine, and county fairs, while also serving on the executive committee. Currently, he serves on the Indiana State Fair Grant Committee, issuing grants to all Indiana county fairs though legislation. Hedington is a self-employed musical key mounter through Fox Products, America’s largest manufacturer of bassoons, contrabassons, oboes and English horns. He is also the manager of a 90,000 broiler-bird operation and a former portable X-ray assembler for GE Medical. For eight years, he and his wife, Melody, were the leaders of the Elkhart County 4-H harness horse club, where they were able to introduce children to the harness racing industry. They have a son, Cody, and a daughter-in-law, Andrea.
