Biography

Gabe Wand is chairperson of USTA District 4 and has been a director since 2010. He began training horses at age 11 with his father and has been in the industry since the early 1990s. In 2023, he extended the all-time driving record in Wisconsin by capturing his fourteenth Driver of the Year title. He has owned or trained five Pacers of the Year and one Trotter of the Year in the Badger State. He was the youngest person elected to the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association board of directors (at age 20) and the youngest president (at age 23) and has been president of the WHHA since 2004. Due to his dedication and accomplishments at the grassroots level, Wand received the 2013 USTA President’s Award given by President Phil Langley. Wand has served as a trustee to the Harness Horse Youth Foundation Board and is also a member of the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association, Iowa Harness Horsemen’s Association and Minnesota Harness Racing, Inc. In 2021 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Wand received a degree in business administration, management and human resources from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and, since graduating from there, has been employed by Prairie Farms, a dairy cooperative that ships cheese worldwide. He has worked in sales, marketing and operational management for the company.
