Biography

Mark Loewe is vice chairperson of the USTA. He was named vice president of racing for the Meadows Casino, Racetrack and Hotel in 2019. He joined Penn National Gaming, Inc. in February 2008 as GM of the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club in Longwood, Fla., and since then assumed racing leadership roles at five other PNGI horse racing facilities (Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, Beulah Park, Raceway Park, Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway and Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Racecourse). Loewe was actively involved in the development of the overall racing facilities at Dayton Raceway and Mahoning Valley Race Course and since late 2014 has served as vice president of Ohio racing operations for PNGI, and still retains oversight of the Mahoning Valley Race Course racing operations. He grew up in New York City and frequented Yonkers and Roosevelt Raceways on a regular basis. Upon graduating from St. John’s University in 1978 with a degree in government and politics, he started his career in racing, working as a groom for Bill Popfinger. In his first year with the Popfinger Stable, he was the groom for Little Brown Jug winner Happy Escort. Loewe trained for Popfinger and the Jerry Silverman Stable before opening his own public stable which he ran for 10 years. After leaving the backstretch, Loewe worked at Pompano Park and was mentored by John Cashman. He held various positions over the course of years, including TV analyst, simulcast director, assistant race secretary, race secretary, director of racing and vice president of operations. He is married to Janet Terhune and has a son and two step-children.
