Biography

Andrew “Shades” Demsky, a native of Bellmore, NY currently serves as the Regional Director of Racing for Tioga and Vernon Downs. Demsky, a graduate of Hofstra University, started his professional career working in minor league baseball as a production/creative services manager with three different teams. He oversaw all videoboard content creation, between innings promotions, broadcast production and fan entertainment. In 2013, he transitioned from baseball to horse racing, working for the Tampa Bay Downs television department. After one season, he moved from behind the camera to in front of it, adding the moniker “Shades” while serving as the track’s public handicapper. Since then, Demsky has held positions at Canterbury Park, Presque Isle Downs, and with the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association. Demsky began working in harness racing following the Covid-19 pandemic, serving as track announcer and race secretary at Tioga Downs beginning with the 2020 season. Two years later, he was promoted to oversee all racing operations. He is focused on providing guests with a unique racetrack experience with daily promotions, horsemen interaction, and fan-friendly games between the races. When away from the office, Demsky most enjoys time with his wife and son, bowling local tournaments, bending the rod, squeezing in a round of golf, and cheering on the New York Mets.
