Donald Marean is chairman of USTA District 9. He owned and
operated Standish Hardware & Feed Co. for 30 years and sold the business to his employees
in 2003. Founded Lindon Farm, Inc. with his wife Linda in 1988, and they ran it continually until
2009 as a Standardbred breeding facility. In 2010 they retired from breeding but continue to
own and race horses. They still live on the farm and continue to care for the retired horses that
they own. Marean is a director of the Maine Farm Bureau Horse Council and currently is vice
chair of the University of Maine (Orono) Board of Agriculture. He is also a director of the Maine
Harness Horsemen’s Association and past president and director of the Maine Standardbred
Breeders and Owners Association. Former chair of the Land For Maine’s Future Board, he was
appointed by the Governor. He was also appointed by the Governor to serve on the Animal
Welfare Advisory Council, representing Maine Farm Bureau and large animals. He was
appointed by President Langley as a director of the American Horse Council as the USTA
representative. He also is currently serving as a director of the newly formed Standardbred
Transition Alliance on behalf of the USTA. Served four years in the Maine House of
Representatives (2005-2008) and was re-elected to the House in 2012, 2014 2016 and 2018. In
between those terms, he was the spokesman for the industry at the Statehouse as their
lobbyist. He also served as a selectman in his community and is a corporator of Gorham
Savings Bank. Don and Linda received the Distinguished Service Award from the Maine
Harness Horsemen’s Association in 2003 and he received the Appreciation Award from
Harness Horsemen’s International in 2013. In 2020 he received the President's Award of the
United States Harness Writers Assoc. Don and Linda have been married for 60 years and
have three daughters, Shirley, Dawn and Christine; two granddaughters, Whitney and Blake; a
