Casey Leonard
Casey Leonard is currently one of the leading drivers in Illinois and has won titles at Balmoral Park, Hawthorne and Maywood Park. Among the top horses he has driven are Fort Silky, Fox Valley Gemini and Well To Do Guru. Leonard earned a bachelor of business degree (business management with a focus on supply chain management) from Western Illinois University. He is a member of the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association. Leonard and his wife, Maureen, have an 11-year-old son, Cayden.

Jim Miller

Jim Miller
Jim Miller is the director of media relations at Hawthorne Race Course and Suburban Downs and the general manager/racing at the Illinois State Fairs. Miller has spent more than 25 years in the sport. He worked at Arlington Park from 1993-1997 and has been at Hawthorne/Suburban Downs since 1997. Miller served as the assistant general manager at Hawthorne from 2000-2012 before taking a brief leave to work for a Thoroughbred owner. Additional positions he has held include back-up track announcer, racing analyst, clocker, morning-line oddsmaker, horsemen relations, and stall superintendent. Miller has been a past president of and currently serves as treasurer of the Racing Industry Charitable Foundation. Miller has been a Thoroughbred horse owner and was named to the inaugural Thoroughbred Times “40 Under 40” list. Prior to his involvement in the sport, Miller graduated from Carthage College in 1997 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He became a member of the Carthage College Athletic Hall of Fame in the fall of 2017. He was an NCAA All-American baseball player in 1997 and was drafted in the 11th round of the June free agent draft that year by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played four years in the Brewers organization (1997-2000). He and his wife, Joanne, have two children, Hannah (14) and Owen (11).

James J. Reynolds

James J. Reynolds
Jim Reynolds is retired as a trainer-driver, public school teacher, college professor and state administrator, but remains active as a Standardbred owner and by managing, with his wife, his 157-acre Freedom Hill Farms in Watseka, Ill. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Reynolds returned to his alma mater to join the faculty after having earned a doctorate degree in educational administration from Indiana University. Reynolds, although not born into a racing family, caught the horse bug while growing up in Sidney, Ill., in Champaign County. While attending—and later teaching at—Eastern Illinois, he threw all of his spare time and spare energy into driving and training, first at the fairs and later at the Chicago racetracks. He is a past president of the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and also served on the board of the Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association and the Harness Horse Youth Foundation. In 1994 he was appointed director of the Illinois Bureau of County Fairs and Horse Racing. Two years later, he was promoted to superintendent of promotions and marketing for the Department of Agriculture. His additional responsibilities included oversight of foreign and domestic marketing of Illinois agriculture products and both state fairs. After leaving state government, he was the director of economic development for Iroquois County for five years. Reynolds and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of two sons, Keith and Kristopher, and he has a daughter, Ginger, from an earlier marriage. Jim and his wife have six grandchildren.

Sam Lilly

Sam Lilly
Sam Lilly is chairman of USTA District 5. He is president of Resource Development Press, Ltd.; Lilly Associates, Inc., dba Learning Resources Institute; and Lilly Racing Stable, Inc. (Standardbred breeding, raising and racing). He is a former college professor, real estate broker, state government commission director and professional speaker and trainer. Introduced to the sport as a child by his father at Coles County (Ill.) Fairgrounds, Lilly rejoined the industry in advertising and writing more than 35 years ago and began racing and raising Standardbreds more than 30 years ago. He was voted Illinois Harness Horseman of the Year. Lilly earned a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in History from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is a member and former vice president of the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and former director/secretary of the Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association. He is a director and vice president of the DuPage County (Ill.) Farm Bureau. Lilly is married to Ellen DeJulio Lilly, Ed.D., and has three children, Scott, Rick and Catherine.
