Jay D. Cross
Jay Cross has spent more than 30 years in the sport as an owner, trainer and driver. He has driven more than 3,000 winners in his career. A regular on the Hoosier circuit, Cross has trained and driven several Indiana Sire Stakes champions. Top horses he has driven include Justabit Of Magic, Comeover, Dontgetinmyway, and Eternal Camnation. Member of the Midwestern Big Four Trottingbred Association Hall of Fame. Served as race secretary for the Elkhart County 4-H Fair. Cross and his wife, Pammela, have a son, Jeremy. Cross’ brother, Steve, is the announcer at Hoosier Park.

Sam Hedington

Sam Hedington
Sam Hedington is a self-employed musical key mounter though Fox Products, America’s largest manufacturer of bassoons, contrabassons, oboes and English horns. Hedington is the manager of a 90,000 broiler bird operation and a former portable X-ray assembler for GE Medical. He has been in harness racing his entire life. He started racing Trottingbreds with his father, which created a great foundation to start as an owner, trainer and driver in the Standardbred industry. He has raced at the county fairs and on the pari-mutuel circuit for more than 30 years and is the owner of a 40-acre farm with a half-mile training track and stables. Some of his top horses include Call Me Beacon and Donna Super Sis. Hedington is a former director if the Indiana Standardbred Association for 14 years. During that time he served as second vice president and chaired the following committees: Fair Grant, Magazine, and County Fairs, while also serving on the executive committee. Currently, he serves on the Indiana State Fair Grant Committee, issuing grants to all Indiana county fairs though legislation. He and his wife, Melody, have a son, Cody, and a daughter-in-law, Andrea. Sam and Melody were the leaders of the Elkhart County 4-H harness horse club for eight years, where they were able to introduce children to the harness racing industry.

Steve Oldford

Steve Oldford
Steve Oldford
Steve Oldford is president and owner of Oldford and Associates, providing sales and engineering services to companies supplying the automotive industry. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Oldford has been involved in the harness horse industry for more than 40 years as a breeder, owner, driver and trainer. He is very active as an amateur driver, winning the CKG Billings point championship five times since 2008 and the Gold Cup final in 2010. He is also a five-time winner of the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame Amateur Driver of the Year while also serving as a trustee and the museum’s vice president. Steve was the 2013 USHWA Amateur Driver of the Year and represented the U.S. in the World Amateur Cup held in Finland in 2014, winning two races. He has raced in amateur races in Italy and New Zealand. He is also president of the Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association, and vice president of the CKG Billings Harness Driving Club. Oldford and his wife of 35 years, Gale, live on their horse farm near Croswell, Mich., and raise and train Standardbreds. They have three adult children and one grandchild.

Scott J. Peine
Scott Peine is the racing secretary/director of racing for Hoosier Park and has been involved in the sport for more than 20 years. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville in 2002 and was the “Outstanding Senior in Equine Administration” in 2002. Peine is a member of the American Harness Racing Secretaries. He and his wife, Kelly, have a five-year-old son, Alex, and a three-year-old daughter, Sophia.

Mike P. Sweeney

Mike P. Sweeney
Mike Sweeney has been active in the Standardbred sport as an owner, trainer, driver and breeder all his life. He is a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and has served as a director of the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association since 1999. He is a former Horseman of the Year and Breeder of the Year in Michigan and was recently inducted into that state’s Harness Racing Hall of Fame. He has trained several state and world champions. Among his favorite horses have been Twentymillionthfan, Spark Of Energy, Incredible M A, Adversary and Tropical Breeze. He and his wife, Patty, reside at their farm in Davison, Mich.

Marilyn W. Breuer-Bertera
Marilyn W. Breuer-Bertera
Marilyn Breuer-Bertera is chairman of USTA District 2 and is a lifelong participant in harness racing as an owner/trainer. She and her husband, Rocky Bertera, race a small stable of horses in Michigan and surrounding states. Breuer-Bertera grew up on a farm in central Michigan, racing at the Michigan fairs with her father, and purchased her first horse when she was 16. She is a past director of the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association, serving as secretary of that board for 15 years. She also serves as a USTA representative on the American Horse Council board of trustees. She holds a B.S. degree in education—business education and physical education—from Central Michigan University. Marilyn and Rocky reside in Northville, Mich.
