LEASING

Do you have a question about a lease or partnership agreement?

Does the USTA have a lease form available?

Unfortunately not. The terms in a lease vary widely and one form would not be suitable for all.

How do I file a lease agreement with the USTA?

Filing a lease is easy and it is free! Lease agreements can be mailed or faxed. Our mailing address is 750 Michigan Ave Columbus, OH 43215. Our fax number is 614-224-4575. Please send your lease agreement to the attention of our Customer Service Department.

What does the USTA require to record a lease?

We need a signed agreement that identifies the horse and the effective dates of the lease. The agreement must be signed by both the lessee and lessor. Both parties must have current membership. Any additional agreements like the pay out percentages or who is responsible for the expenses in caring for the horse are between the lessee and lessor. This information can be submitted with the lease but is not required.

How do I cancel a lease?

Typically a lease can be canceled by both parties submitting a signed cancellation request. The statement can be faxed or mailed in.

Can a lease be recorded for an indefinite amount of time?

Yes! When drawing up the lease agreement just indicate that there is not an ending date for the lease.

If I lease a stallion or brood mare will I be able to sign the mating certificate or registration application?

Yes! In fact, all the paperwork will be mailed to the current lessee of the stallion or brood mare. In the case of a brood mare, the foal will also be recorded under the ownership of the lessee of the dam at the time of foaling.
