| Here are the basics on completing the registration on an imported horse:
- We will need a completed application for registration to be submitted. If you need an application please click here. The application must include the color, sex, all white markings, scars and brands.
- The fee is $200. If the horse will be racing there will be an additional $95 due to cover the electronic eligibility.
- The Clearance (Export) Certificate from the registry in the country of origin- this should contain the pedigree, physical description, past performance, ownership information, and parentage verification.

Here are the basics on obtaining an Export Certificate from the USTA:
- The identity of the horse must be verified prior to leaving the country. The identity must be verified by someone authorized by the Executive Vice-President of the USTA. Arrangements are typically made by the company handling the shipping of the horse.
- An application for an Export Certificate showing the name, color, sex, freeze brand or tattoo number, and white markings must be submitted. This application is typically provided by the shipping company.
- The fee is $330
- The original certificate must be returned with the transfer section completed. The new buyer must be noted. The normal transfer fee will be assessed in addition to the export fee.
- The horse being exported must be tattooed or freeze branded prior to leaving the country.
- We will issue an Export Certificate that is sent directly to the registry in the foreign country.
