Can I pull the hair sample myself?

That depends on the age of your horse.
· For horses born in 2001 and later: The hair sample must be collected when the horse is freeze branded or tattooed. The technician will bring a kit with them for the DNA typing.
· For horses born prior to 2001: You may collect the DNA sample once you receive a kit. If your horse was previously blood typed there is a $40 fee for a DNA typing kit. Once the payment is received a kit will be mailed to you. Please contact our Customer Service Department to order a DNA kit. What is the turn around time for DNA typing?

Once the lab receives a sample it typically takes 5-10 business days to complete the testing.

How will I know when the DNA typing is completed?

The lab contacts us electronically with results. Once we receive the results a letter is mailed to the recorded owner confirming the horse has been DNA typed. If a transfer, electronic eligibility, or foal registrations are pending DNA results our Customer Service team will complete the pending material once results are received. Can a DNA sample be done any faster than 5-10 business days?
