Simply stated,
owning a Standardbred racehorse can be the most exciting investment you'll ever make. You might buy a Standardbred because you want to become intimately involved in our great sport, expect a return on your investment, or take advantage of some tax breaks.
Standardbred ownership can be all of these thingsplus it's just plain fun!
And you can become directly involved. You can actually take a hand in the sport by climbing into the jog cart and taking your horse for a spin around the track as part of his training regimen.
But before we climb into the sulky, let's go back to the beginning. For most prospective owners, two questions arise: "How do I get started?" and "How much will it cost?"
What we'll attempt to do within these pages is spell out your options and give you an estimate of the amounts you might have to spend initially and on an ongoing basis.
Fortunately, you don't have to be the Aga Khan or own a string of oil wells to get into the business of owning Standardbreds.
There are options.
The level of involvement and investment is up to you.
This Web page, created by the United States Trotting Association, is designed to provide answers to the most asked questions proposed by prospective owners, and to serve as a resource for Standardbred owners.
Here you'll find the publications, Web links, and the tools that will go a long way in helping you maximize your return on investment -- and to maximize your fun in the sport of harness racing.
See you in the winner's circle!
