Michigan tracks face Nov. 5 shutdown

Columbus, OH --- The Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association is reporting on their Web site, that due to Governor Jennifer Granholm’s executive order and recent line item veto of the horse racing budget, that 2009 live and simulcast racing in the state will end on November 5.

Last week the Governor vetoed $5 million in funds that would have been given to the state’s county fairs and the horse racing industry, jeopardizing Michigan Sire Stakes and breeders’ awards.

The MHHA also announced that with the closing of tracks on Nov. 5, the Michigan-Bred Pari-Mutuel Races that were scheduled to have eliminations on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 at Northville, with finals on Nov. 14, have been postponed until further notice.
