Shadow Play retires; heads to stud duty at Blue Chip

Columbus, OH --- Champion pacer Shadow Play has been retired from racing and is off to stud duty at Blue Chip Farm in New York. The announcement was made in a blog on the Standardbred Canada Web site by his co-owner and trainer, Dr. Ian Moore.

Shadow Play retired with 20 lifetime wins and earnings of $1,549,881.
Shadow Play was one of the top 3-year-olds in the sport in 2008, winning 14 times in 25 trips to the post, with earnings of $1,173,446. He was a winner in the Little Brown Jug at Delaware, the Delvin Miller Adios at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the American-National at Balmoral Park. He set a world record for a sophomore pacing colt on a five-eighths-mile track when he won his Adios elimination in 1:48.2.

On Nov. 15, 2008, prior to his second place finish in the Breeders Crown, his ownership group, which included Dr. Moore, along with Ron and Gail McLellan's R G McGroup Ltd. and former NHL star Serge Savard, sold a piece of the pacer to Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc. with the intention to stand him at stud beginning in 2010 at Blue Chip's Wallkill, N.Y. facility, while continuing to race him in 2009 as a 4-year-old.

Shadow Play hit the board in seven of 11 starts this year, with earnings of $346,558. He lowered his mark to 1:47.4 with a victory in the $328,750 U.S. Pacing Championship at The Meadowlands. In his final career start, he was sixth on Oct. 10 in the $149,000 Allerage Farm Horse Pace at The Red Mile.

The son of The Panderosa--Matt's Filly retires with 20 wins in 49 lifetime starts and earnings of $1,549,881.
