Winbak Select, Forest City Sale experience declines

Columbus, OH --- A pair of yearling sales were conducted this past weekend, one on either side of the border.

The Winbak Select Sale was conducted at the farm’s Maryland location, where 47 youngsters went under the hammer. The average price paid was $7,414, down 15 percent from the $8,729 average produced by 42 head last year.

This year’s top yearling was a pacing colt by Powerful Toy and out of Misty Speed, named Powerful Mist, who brought a $27,000 bid from Lou Paglierani.

A total 217 brought an average of C$19,942 at the Forest City Yearling Sale, conducted at Western Fair in London, Ont. The vendue concluded on Sunday.

The Forest City average, too, was down by 6.72 percent over last year, when 246 horses went through the ring.

Three horses shared top billing by drawing bids of C$70,000: They were Stonebridge Rocket (pacing colt by Rocknroll Hanover-One Fine Cam), Stonebridge Ballad (trotting filly by Angus Hall-Velvia) and Tymal Halo (trotting filly by Angus Hall-Catchmeanangel).
